Cabo San Lucas

Located at the tip of the peninsula where the Sea of Cortez meets the wild Pacific Ocean, Land’s End or Los Cabos, is a varied destination that captures the essence of Baja Peninsula in its many resorts, championship golf courses, world-class dining and amazing outdoor activities.

Although today’s Cabo San Lucas is one of Mexico’s top tourism destinations, it was just a quiet fishing village until the 1980s, when hotels started taking root and an international airport opened the doors for the general traveling public.

The area had been quietly drawing attention during the 1950s and 60s when it caught the eye and the spirit of serious (and wealthy) sportsfishers, who descended upon the area to try their luck in landing a record-size billfish. Centuries before that, it was a haven for pirates, namely Thomas Cavendish. Legend says the pirates used the Arch as a lookout for passing ships, and the pirates who stayed behind became fisherman.

Nowadays, Cabo San Lucas is a bustling hub for sport fishermen, cruise ships, handicraft vendors, water sport aficionados and nightlife seekers. The area is considered the second fastest growing resort destination in all of Mexico and particularly busy with visitors during the winter high season, November to February. With some of the best all-around sportfishing in the world and every water sport imaginable, Cabo is the ultimate destination for travelers looking for outdoor adventure.

For those looking to have fun on the shore, Médano Beach, Cabo’s best swimming beach, boasts popular happy hour hotspots including The Office, Billygan’s, Mango Deck, Baja Cantina and the new Nikki Beach at Meliá San Lucas.

By night, Cabo is one of the hottest party towns in North America with glittering nightlife and a plethora of dining options that make energetic Cabo San Lucas an all-time favorite. Also called Cabo San “Loco” or just plain “Cabo”, the town’s reputation as the wild party center of the Baja Peninsula has brought fame and infamy to its many bars and nightclubs as Cabo Wabo, the Nowhere Bar and El Squid Roe, among others, which are known to play dance beats till dawn.

The rest of San Lucas boasts some great shopping areas and markets that are perfect for browsing the many artisan goods and handicrafts from all over Mexico. A lively marina harbors yachts from around the world and the boardwalk area is lined with cafes, clubs, "toes in the sand" bars and eateries.
