NEW!!Do you think your pet has what it takes to be a calendar pinup? Then enter your best snapshots to the second annual PATA Manzanillo 2009 calendar contest!

We will accept up to three (3) high resolution photo (2500 pixels by 3000 pixels works best) entries per household of either your pet(s) alone or with you at home or in and around Manzanillo, plus a brief bio (name, age, his/her story in less than 100 words -- especially of interest if it's a former street animal). If you don't have access to a digital camera but feel your pet is deserving, send us a compelling story about his/her rescue, and if selected, we will send a photographer out for a mini photoshoot of your shining star!!

Example: "Two-year-old Paco is a boxer mix who lives with his owners John and Sally in Santiago, and came from humble beginnings as a taco stand dog on the main boulevard until he adopted his new family. Paco enjoys long sunset walks on the beach and chasing pelicans."

Entries will be accepted until September 30, 2008 upon which time 12 will be selected to star in PATA Manzanillo's second charity calendar for 2009. We prefer new calendar pinups so spread the word among friends, neighbors and colleagues -- we want to uncover the cutest and most compelling animal shots yet.

Winning submissions will receive one free calendar, and the rest will be sold to raise funds for PATA Manzanillo to host programs including:
  • our annual free massive spay/neuter campaign in March 2009 (so far we've given FREE surgeries to more than 900 animals in the clinic setting)

  • mini clinics throughout the year to spay/neuter pets and strays in outlying rural communities

  • educational outreach programs that see us bringing recovered street pets to classrooms around Manzanillo to raise awareness about responsible pet care among school-aged local children.

Please email your entries to info@PATAManzanillo.com and include your name, email, telephone numbers and address.

Our Calgary PATA chapter lead by Chris Newbold had two summer garage sale fundraisers raising a total of $1,800!!!

Chris reports positive news from the first sale:

"We had our garage sale, the weather was the hottest day of the summer so far (30 degrees) and it was also the May long weekend. We have so many items to sell that we are going to have 2 garage sales with the next one hopefully next weekend. On the first day of the sale we made $625.00 dollars.

The employees of Canda Post have been incredible they have donated truck loads of items. In fact many of the items have not even made it to the sale they have been sold in the parking lot of the Canada Post Plant with all the proceeds going to PATA.

Today a lady came to my sister's office with a car load of items 11 boxes in total. She is clearing out the old stock from her stationary shop. She wanted to donate all her item, she said PATA was a perfect fit for her. She loves to vacation in Mexico and has a special place in her heart for cats and dogs. My sister opened the packages and began selling the items from her office, this morning she made an additional $300.00 dollars, she still has 6 of the 11 boxes left to sell.

My hope was that we would raise $1000.00 dollars and we will definitely be able to accomplish that. With out the help of my sister Jane and her co-workers at Canada Post this would not have been possible, they have been terrific. They and I are hoping that we will have another sale next year. To date the total is $925.00."

Our Charity Auction on Sat. Jan. 21, 2006 at 5 pm was a sleeper success attended by a small but enthusiastic group who snatched up some great prizes and helped raise more than $13,000 pesos for the March sterlization clinic.

Thanks to wonderful local sponsors including Sunset Lounge, Senor Sushi, Tesoro Resorts, Karmina Palace, Jan Castillo Language School, El Fogon, Scuba Shack, Danny Depoe and Jonathan Orozco, Hectours DMC, Monkey's Fried Chicken, Arte Nautico, Pepe's Hideaway, (and Costalegre friends Sea to Sierra, La Catalina language school and Immersion Adventres) and radio K-liente for understanding the value of integrated community service and support.

Our second Charity Fashion Event featuring the designs of Vanessa Zamora of Colima and Manzanillo's Ruben Oswaldo rocked the house at SUNSET LOUNGE on Fri. Feb. 10, 2006 at 9 pm.

Manzanillo's hottest volunteer models strutted their stuff on the catwalk showcasing bikinis and evening wear. And amazing door prizes from local community donations (restaurant meals, hotel passes, etc) were raffled off, all to the cause of supporting PATA's quest to hold free sterilization clinics for low income pet owners and street animals.

**We raised almost $2,000 US thanks to the generosity of Sunset Lounge sponsors, the local volunteer models and more than 200 attendees!**

We are proud to announce our first little event in Oct. 2005, a Fundraising Fashion Show to raise money for supplies, medicines and funds for the mobile spaying and neutering clinics was a smashing success! We raised more than $800 US thanks to the generous sponsors and around 100 people who attended the event.

"desfile_vestidos"
The show featured evening gowns and original designs of local Manzanillense Ruben Oswaldo, with makeup by stylist Diego Castro. Official sponsors of the PATA Fundraising Fashion Show included Karmina Palace resort, Mexican Pacific Marketing, Senor Sushi, and Flores de Estela.

Additional raffle prizes included Jazz pianist Jonathan Orozco, who donated 2 hours of private jazz music and Juanito's Restaurant, with a complimentary dinner for two.

More than 100 people showed up to support the cause, and the highlight was the Dog Show featuring the REAL stars of the evening, the four legged, furry models!

"bano_letrero"
We have started hosting regular events, monthly Anti-tick Dog Washes, to help raise community awareness and some funds for this fledgling group.

It is our hope that with these frequent community events, we will raise the consciousness of the local population and help affect positive change in the culture of owning pets with the people of Manzanillo. Once we gain trust and faith in the community, we can move onto other issues such as the importance in spaying and neutering to control unwanted animal populations.

"bano_embra"So far the success has been great and we are very excited by the strong turnout and community interest.

Our first event on Sunday, July 17, 2005 was held beside the volunteer firefighters station in Valle Las Garzas. We washed 19 dogs and treated them with anti-tick medicine, and dispensed advice.

"bano_cachorito"We've since had several other washes in low-income neighborhoods around the city: at the Red Cross station near the new bus terminal, the Santiago Garden near the taxi stand among them. We also dispense print information on how people can keep fleas and ticks and other parasites out of the home.

Anyone who is interested in donating or pledging our cause is asked to contact PATA at info@patamanzanillo.com or the phone number below.
