| Mission statement & Statistics |
PATA Manzanillo is a non-profit, all volunteer group of local Mexicans and foreigners dedicated to the welfare of all dogs, cats and area wildlife in Manzanillo. PATA stands for Personas Ayudando a Todo los Animales, simply put, "people heping all animals".
Our goal at PATA Manzanillo is to end needless suffering, promote sterilization to lessen the over population problem and reduce the number of stray animals on the streets, help animals to find and stay in suitable and loving homes (or safe and proper environments), foster an atmosphere of respect, responsibility and compassion for all animals through education and leadership, to provide medical care for the homeless injured, and help to abate the human health issues associated with these animals.
NEW!! PATA Manzanillo is now a proud member of Asociaciones Protectoras de Animales de México (APASDEM), a consortium of 53 animal welfare groups across Mexico dedicated to the protection of animals through educational initiatives, grassroots campaigns and shared resources. Did you know...?
PATA Manzanillos goal of no more homeless pets is an endeavor shared by all animal welfare groups. Achieving this goal requires community involvement and cooperation.
In just five years two female cats and their off-spring can easily produce 243 breeding females. In ten years these 243 breeding females and their off-spring can produce 59,049 more cats.
An unspayed female dog and her mate and all of their puppies and their puppies' puppies, if none are ever neutered or spayed, add up to:
1 year: 16
2 years: 128
3 years: 512
4 years 2,048
5 years: 12,288
6 years: 67,000
STATISTICS- Spayed/Neutered animals live an average of 2-3 years longer than pets that are not.
- Animals that aren't sterilized are more likely to get his by cars or run away while searching for a mate.
- Thousands of animals die each year at animal shelters and on the city streets. If your pet is having puppies or kittens they are adding to the number of animals that die - even if you get them good homes, that is still taking a good home away from an animal that may have otherwise been adopted at the shelter.
- Pets tend to have less aggression and behavioral issues (such as spraying urine inappropriately) after being surgically sterilized.
